Baba Jiwan Singh Ji (Bhai Jaita Ji)

Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji gave their Shaheedi on 6th December 1705 very close to the ˜Sirsa river. Bhai Jiwan Singh was the son of Bhai Agiaah Ji and the grandson of Bhai Dala Ji.

On the day of the Shaheedi of the Ninth Guru Shri Guru Tegh Bhadur Ji, Bhai Jaita Ji with three other Sikhs collected Guru Sahibs Sees from Chandi Chownk Dehli and brought Guru Jis Sees back to Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Anandpur Sahib. At this time Guru Sahib blessed Bhai Jaita Ji by giving them the title of ˜Guru da Beta “ ˜The son of the Guru.

When Guru Gobind Singh Ji made the khalsa army, Bhai Jaita Ji was also placed in the army by Guru Sahib. Bhai Jaita Ji loved learning martial arts and how to use weapons for self defence. In a very short period Bhai Jaita Ji became very good at martial arts and self defence. When Guru Sahib created the Khalsa, at this point Bhai Jaita Ji took Amrit and became Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji. There was so much ˜pyaar “ ˜love between Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji and Guru Sahib that Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji moved to Anandpur Sahib. During the attacks on Anandpur Sahib by the ˜Pahari Rajas “ ˜Hill Kings and the mughals, Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji fought without fear and killed many of the ˜Pahari Rajas and Mughals.

From the 5th to the 6th December 1705 at night when Guru Gobind Singh Ji left Anandpur Sahib, Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji was in those forty singhs that had vowed to stay with Guru Sahib. When Guru Sahib and the singhs left Anandpur Sahib and reached Kartarpur Sahib near the ˜Sirsa River, at this point the ˜Pahari Rajas started to attack. Guru Sahib sent Bhai Jiwan Singh and other Singhs to ˜Jhakiyah village to fight from there. At this time there was a very fierce battle. All the singhs fought without fear against the attackers, one Singh fought against many attackers at the one time. Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji was excellent at archery, they flooded the battle field with arrows, and their arrows successfully killed many of the attackers. At this point suddenly a shot came and hit Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji in the forehead; uttering ˜Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh they gave their Shaheedi. The battle went on until the evening and most of the Singhs and Singhania gave their Shaheedia. Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji fought continuously for hours until the shot hit them on their forehead. From this one learns how powerful and how fearless Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji was.

It is also worth mentioning that Bhai Jaita Jis name was changed by Guru Sahib to Bhai Jiwan Singh to reflect their ˜Jiwan which was that of a Pooran Gursikh. Bhai Jiwan Singh was also a very renowned Kirtani Singh and this is why Guru Sahib gave them so much love and respect.
