Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana belongs to Rajoana kalan village in  the Ludhiana district, Punjab, India. Rajoana Kalan is off the main road from Mullanpur to Raikot, between the River/Canal at Sudhar and Raikot, approximately two or three miles from Sudhar.

He was in Punjab police department and was with former chief minister Beant Singh in 1995.
Beant singh during his tenure as a chief minister alongwith DGP KPS Gill has killed number of innocent Sikh youth(40,000-50,000) in fake encounters for their benefits on the guidelines of Indian govt. Once they picked up the Sikh youth, the youth could not be seen again.

By watching this killing of innocent Sikh youth  they could not control them for taking this step to kill beant singh by not caring about their future their jobs, their family. Bhai Dilawar Singh and Bhai Rajona and others police constables planned to kill the Beant singh. So Bhai Dilawar Singh made himself a human bomb and blown up himself in Chandigarh court in which beant singh was killed and Bhai Rajoana was arrested.

Recently the Punjab and Haryana High Court has confirmed the death sentence awarded to Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. This sentence initially was awarded to him by Sessions Court, Chandigarh in CM beant singh assassination case. Rajoana is currently confined in Patiala Jail. He was shifted to this jail few months back from High Security Burail Jail, Chandigarh. It is learnt that Balwant Singh Rajoana had admitted the fact that he along with Bhai Dilawar Singh (Shaheed) made and executed the plan to eliminate Beant Singh, infamous Chief Minister of Punjab. He even refused to take services of a lawyer to defend himself and openly declared that he had no faith in Indian Judicial System.

In a letter dated October 1, 2010, he had opposed the plea for rejecting the human bomb theory put forward by defence lawyers, appointed by other persons sentenced by the Sessions court. Balwant Singh says that he himself tied the bomb belt to Bhai Dilawar Singh to eliminate Beant Singh. He rejects the contention of prosecuting agency, CBI, that Dilawar Singh was motivated and inspired by someone else to become human bomb. He adds that it was the nationalist feelings of Bhai Dilawar Singh; the cries of mother land Punjab, which was unable to bear innocent killings any more, and atrocities committed by Indian State on Sikhs, which motivated Bhai Dilawar Singh to take that step. He says that CBI wanted to defame their struggle by contending that they wanted to kill maximum number of persons through that bomb blast. He said that they were against innocent killings but wanted to kill Beant Singh, who was the kingpin behind mass level human rights violations, enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killings in Punjab.

In this letter Bhai Rajoana has severely criticized CBI for its dual standards. He says that CBI sees culprits of Sikh Genocide 1984 as great patriots but term Sikhs, who followed the path shown by history to suppress the evil, as terrorists.

Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana has reaffirmed his faith in establishing Khalistan, independent sovereign state for Sikhs. He has refused to bow before imperialist and barbaric Indian State to save his life but demands freedom for his people.
